Privacy Policy
Effective July 18, 2026 · Last updated July 18, 2026
WVVY is a volunteer-run, listener-supported community radio station. We are not in the data business. We do not sell, rent, or trade information about you, we do not show advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
This policy covers the WVVY website at wvvy.org and the WVVY mobile apps for iOS and Android (together, the “Services”). It is published by Martha's Vineyard Community Radio, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation in Tisbury, Massachusetts that holds the license for WVVY-LP.
The short version
- There are no accounts. We never ask you for your name, email address, or any other personal detail.
- The app contains no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs.
- Your volume setting is stored on your own device and never sent to us.
- Like any internet service, our streaming server records basic technical connection logs, including IP addresses.
- We do not use any of this to identify you or to build a profile of you.
What we do not collect
The Services do not ask for, and we do not collect:
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers, or postal addresses
- Account credentials — there are no accounts to create or sign in to
- Precise or approximate location from your device's location services
- Contacts, calendars, photos, camera, or microphone data
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA/AAID), and we do not use App Tracking Transparency tracking
- Payment or card details — see Donations
Information that is received automatically
Streaming and now-playing (radio.wvvy.org)
The audio stream, the “now playing” track information, and album artwork are served from the station's own AzuraCast server. As with any web or streaming server, it writes standard technical logs when your player connects. These can include:
- IP address
- Browser or app user-agent string
- Date, time, and duration of the connection, and amount of audio delivered
We use these logs only to keep the station on the air: to see how many people are listening in aggregate, to diagnose outages and buffering, and to block abuse of the stream. We do not use them to identify individual listeners, and we do not combine them with anything else to build a profile. We keep them only as long as needed for those purposes.
Website hosting and analytics (Cloudflare)
The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare processes your IP address as part of delivering the site and protecting it from attack. The website also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-focused: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint visitors, and reports only aggregate figures such as page views and referrers. We cannot identify an individual visitor from it.
The mobile apps contain no analytics of any kind.
Fonts and the show schedule (Google)
The Services load typefaces from Google Fonts, and the weekly show schedule is published by the station through Google Sheets and fetched directly by your device. In both cases your device connects to Google's servers, so Google receives your IP address and may log the request. We do not send Google any information about you, and we receive nothing back about you.
What is stored on your device
The apps and the website keep a small amount of data locally, in ordinary browser or app storage. It stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.
| Stored value | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
wvvy:volume |
App and website | Remembers your volume setting between sessions |
wvvy:install-dismissed |
Website | Remembers that you dismissed the “install this app” prompt so it stops reappearing |
wvvy:nowplaying:v2 |
Website | Caches the last track seen so the page is not blank on your next visit |
| Offline cache | App and website | A service worker stores the app's own files so it opens without a connection |
Deleting the app, or clearing your browser's site data, removes all of it. We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising.
App permissions
The apps request only what playback requires. Notably, they do not request location, microphone, camera, or contacts.
- Network access — to fetch the audio stream and track information.
- Network state — to tell you that you are offline instead of failing silently.
- Prevent sleeping / foreground service (Android) — to keep audio playing when your screen is off.
- Notifications (Android 13+) — used solely to display the playback controls notification while the stream is running. We do not send marketing or push notifications.
Donations
Donation buttons open Venmo or PayPal outside the app. Those companies process the payment and handle your financial information under their own privacy policies. We never see or store your card or bank details. If you mail a check or email us for a receipt, we keep the information you send us only as long as needed for our nonprofit records and acknowledgements.
Links out
The Services link to places we do not control — Venmo, PayPal, our own website, and email. Once you follow a link, that destination's privacy policy applies, not this one.
Third parties we rely on
| Service | Used for | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Website hosting, security, cookieless analytics | cloudflare.com/privacypolicy |
| Google (Fonts, Sheets) | Typefaces; the published show schedule | policies.google.com/privacy |
| PayPal | Donations | paypal.com/us/legalhub/privacy-full |
| Venmo | Donations | venmo.com/legal/us-privacy-policy |
| Apple / Google | App distribution and updates | Their respective store policies |
Children
The Services are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because our programming is live and produced by volunteer DJs, it is not curated for children and may occasionally include mature themes or explicit language. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
Because we do not build accounts or profiles, there is usually nothing of yours for us to look up. You can clear everything the Services stored on your device by deleting the app or clearing your site data.
Depending on where you live — including California and the European Economic Area or United Kingdom — you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, email us at the address below and we will respond as required by law. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising these rights.
We have never sold or shared personal information, and we do not do so now, including as those terms are used under California law. For EEA and UK listeners, our lawful basis for processing the limited technical data described above is our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and maintaining a radio stream.
Where information is handled
WVVY is based in the United States and our servers and service providers are located there. If you listen from outside the United States, the technical information described above is handled in the United States.
Security
The Services are served over encrypted HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but because we hold so little — no accounts, no payment details, no personal profiles — there is very little about you for us to expose.
Changes
If we change how the Services handle information, we will update this page and the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
